Glass-ceramic mix Etna
Etna pool mosaic combines square 40 × 40 mm chips with a colour that does not fade – dark grey with black highlights. The mosaic stays rich and shiny for years.
Dark grey with black glints, where the surface shines like wet slate. The large pieces are solid and elegant. In sunlit water the colour becomes bluer and shows steel-like glints. Suitable for refined pools and for bathrooms with a strict character.

Advantages of the Etna pool mosaic
Stronger than mesh and paper
The sheets of the Etna mosaic are mounted on a silicone (polyurethane) dot backing. On the back, small silicone dots connect the chips without covering their backs.
This way over 95 % of the surface of each chip remains free for the adhesive and the adhesion is very strong. The backing does not change the thickness of the mosaic, does not disintegrate from the adhesive and the grout and does not deform in storage.
The sheet is flexible and is laid easily on curved walls, steps and corners.

Grout colour
Dark grey grout gives a monolithic look, while a light one emphasises the pieces.
For a pool, use epoxy grout – it does not let water through, is not affected by chlorine and keeps its colour.

Calculate the area of the floor and walls and add a reserve for cutting. Example for a pool 8 × 4 m with a depth of 1.5 m:
Consumption rates are approximate: adhesive about 2 kg/m² for chips up to 25 mm, 2.5 kg/m² for 40 mm and 3 kg/m² for larger chips; grout by the formula (A + B) / (A × B) × C × D × 1.6 kg/m² for 40 × 40 mm chips, 5.5 mm thickness and 2 mm joint. The actual consumption depends on the evenness and absorbency of the substrate, the type of adhesive and grout, the size of the trowel, the width and depth of the joint, the shape of the pool or room and the skill of the installer. Check the quantity against the technical data sheet of the chosen adhesive and grout and with the installer.
How to install the Etna pool mosaic
- Substrate. It must be even (within 2 mm over 2 m), dry, sound and dust-free. In the pool, the substrate is first waterproofed with elastic cement-based waterproofing.
- Adhesive. Use a white elastic cement-based adhesive of class C2TE S1. White is important – the glass is slightly translucent and a grey adhesive would darken the colour.
- Application. Spread adhesive with a notched trowel (3–4 mm) over an area for 2–3 sheets.
- Laying. Place the sheet and press it evenly with a rubber trowel. Leave the same 2 mm joint between the sheets.
- Cutting. At corners and around nozzles, cut the silicone dots with a utility knife; single chips are cut with nippers for glass mosaic.
- Grouting. Grout after 24 hours. For a pool, use epoxy grout – it does not let water through and is not affected by chlorine.
- Cleaning. Remove grout residue with a damp sponge before it dries; epoxy residue – immediately with a special cleaning agent.
- Filling. Fill the pool after the grout has fully hardened (usually after 7 days).

Maintenance of the Etna pool mosaic
- Clean with a soft cloth or sponge and a neutral cleaning agent.
- Avoid abrasive powders, metal brushes and acids for the grout.
- Keep the water pH at 7.0–7.4 and the correct hardness so that limescale does not build up on the joints.
- Clean the waterline regularly with a sponge and a waterline cleaner.

The colour in the photo and in reality
Glass mosaic is a living material and its colour is perceived differently depending on the conditions. There may be a difference between the colour in photos and visualisations and the colour of the mosaic on site. The influencing factors are:
- the settings, brightness and type of the screen of the monitor, phone or tablet;
- the light – sun, cloudy sky, artificial lighting, the colour of the lamps, morning or evening;
- the angle from which you view it – the glass reflects and shines differently;
- the water in the pool – depth, clarity, chemistry and the reflection of the sky make the colour more saturated and bluer;
- the colour of the grout and adhesive and the size of the clad area;
- the colours around the mosaic – coping, paving, walls, plants;
- the production batch – a slight difference in shade is possible between individual batches; therefore order the whole quantity at once;
- the natural difference between individual chips in mixes and in glass with an effect finish.
