Sand filtration

The kit pool sand pump – filter pump and sand tank – is the most common way to clean water. The water passes through a layer of quartz sand or glass filling, which retains even fine particles. The filter is easily cleaned by backwashing, and the filling lasts for several seasons.

Sand filtration kits start from 135,77 € for small above-ground pools and go up to 1 116 € for the Azuro 11 m³/h filtration for large in-ground pools.

How to choose a sand pump for a swimming pool

All the water in the pool should pass through the filter in about 4–6 hours. Therefore, divide the volume of the pool by 4 or 5 and choose a set with at least this flow rate. For example, for a pool with about 24 m³ of water, a sand pump with a flow rate of 5–6 m³/h is suitable. If there are many bathers or trees around the pool, get a more powerful model.

Sand or glass filler

The classic filling is quartz sand. Glass filling with fractions of 0,5–1,2, 1,2–3,2 and 3,2–5,0 mm filters finer, is easier to wash and lasts longer. Both are replaced every few seasons when filtration weakens.

Sand or cartridge filtration

Sand filtration is more expensive initially, but does not require buying replacement filters – it is cleaned with water. Cartridge filtration is cheaper and compact, suitable for small inflatable pools, but the cartridges must be washed and replaced regularly.

Questions about sand pumps

How many hours a day should the sand pump run?

During the season, turn on the filtration for at least 6–8 hours a day, divided into several cycles, and on hot days and with many bathers – longer.

How often is backwashing done?

When the pressure gauge shows increased pressure or the water starts to become cloudy – usually once a week during the season.

How much does a pool sand pump cost?
