If the pump hums but does not start, the cause is often a worn 6 µF water pump capacitor of the filtration. This original capacitor has a capacity of 6 µF. It helps the motor start and keeps it running smoothly.

When to replace a 6 µF water pump capacitor
The capacitor ages from heat and moisture. Then the motor has difficulty starting, runs slowly or overheats. Replace the capacitor if the pump hums and does not turn, or if the casing is swollen. Also do not delay the replacement, because the motor may be damaged.
The original capacitor has the exact capacity for the pump motor. This is why starting is reliable and the motor is not put under unnecessary load. A capacitor with the wrong value can lead to overheating and costly damage.
How to install the 6 µF water pump capacitor
- Disconnect the pump from the power supply and wait a few minutes.
- Remove the terminal box cover.
- Remember or photograph how the wires are connected.
- Replace the capacitor and connect the wires in the same way.
- Put the cover back and start the pump.
Maintenance tips
Before any work on the filtration, disconnect the pump from the power supply. Also check all seals and connections at the start of the season. This way small problems show up in time and do not lead to the pool being shut down.
